Jim Baxter`s  "Q-TEE-Gyro" .....a direct rotor controlled autogyro created from the basic RCM "Q-TEE" parasol winged, .09 to .12 R/C model.   This conversion was designed and built in 1997, flown throughout 1997 and 98, then retired.

This conversion of the original  Q-TEE  is completed by eliminating the wing, and substituting a (removable) pylon with 'pod' holding the rotor & servos.   The original fuselage & tail is virtually unchanged except that Battery & Receiver are locate inside small hatches aft of the pylon, and the fin & stabilizer can be removed in a matter of seconds..  This allows for the model to be packed into a suitcase or box for travel.

The 29 1/2" rotor system consists of either a three or four bladed flapping hub, and a dual axis head (pitch & bank) , controlled directly by two micro servos.   The ASP .12 engine is controlled by the new "sub-micro" servo (advertised some places as the world`s smallest servo) sold by FMA & a few other outlets.   Servos such as the various "micro" and "sub-micro" are necessary and work well for these small models. The .25 sized craft "Matilda" utilizes stronger "mini" servos, and when you get into larger .32+ sized models the standard servo is adequate.

And here it is flying..... remarkably stable and easy to fly.  Being as small as it is, it pays not to let it get too far away.

*** What you can`t see in the photos..... (1)  the tail feathers are held in place by two 'toothpicks' and both the fin and stab can be removed in a couple seconds.  (2) The rotor/servo/pylon pod is held in place by two 1/8" dowels, allowing the entire pylon/pod to be removed in a few seconds.   The receiver & small battery are located in the area just aft of the pod, accessed thru a small hatchs on the bottom.
