Autogyros are not noted for their ability to recover from unusual attitudes at low altitude.   The following sequence shows Jim Baxter launching Matilda and releasing it with the nose just a little too high and the nose goes straight up before he can grab his transmitter and make a correction.



Ready to launch...


shove it into the air a little too hard and too nose high..


Matilda heads straight up and begins a left roll...


rolling completely on her back...


and heads straight for the ground...


the rotor catches some air...


and she recovers!


  Obviously superior pilot skill........ ;-)
