Les Garber`s Electric

Electric powered direct control autogiro by Lester W. Garber, Duluth, Minnesota
35 in. diameter rotor,  18.6 oz., 2.8 oz./ft2 rotor disk loading.     Power: Rocket 400 motor, MiniOlympus 2.33:1 gear reduction,   7 - 500 AR nicad batteries,   Slim Prop 9-5.      Rotor blades: 2 x 15.5 in.,  Clark Y,  vacuum bagged foam, glass, carbon fiber mat,  3.0 gm. weight in tips,   finished blade wt.: 13.5 gm. (0.48 oz.).    Typical flight times are about 4 min., some 100 flights to date.
Two recent design changes are moving the rotor post ahead one inch so that the center of gravity is 0.5 in. behind rotor post  and the addition of the vertical rotor pylon (5.2 gm.) to improve lateral stability.     The vertical area of the pylon appears to be very effective in improving stability during turns.
The above information current August 1998

The model shown below is the original electric model of Dr. Garber, and the one he flew at the "Gyronuts `98" flying this summer.   Note that he has changed the tail configuration and added the flat plate pylon.   Both of these changes added significantly to the stability of his latest model shown at the top...   I believe the above specs are similar for both models....
