"G-OOFY"

A .15 powered, Sport Autogyro designed & built by Jerry Holcomb.

As you can see, the "G-OOFY" is bright orange with highly contrasting stripes on the rotor blades, making this model highly visible in flight.    Note the unusually small and high aspect ratio stabilizer.    "G-OOFY" is a direct rotor control (dc) gyro, utilizing micro servos connecting directly to the head for tilt control of the rotor.

Starting with it`s very first flight, "G-OOFY" exhibited excellent stability and required little or no trim corrections.   Jerry elected to complete his first test flight as a ground launch, and noted it ground tracked very well, and the rotor spun up very quickly.

Jerry reports the model is very easy to land..... and virtual zero roll landings are standard.

Note the slim/round profile of the pylon, obviously keeping the drag low.   Look closely and you can see the lateral tilt control arm on the left side of the control head.    The mid-position of the stabliizer places it in direct line with the prop thrust line.

You can clearly see the craftsmanship of a master model builder in this photo.   Jerry is showing the new 4 blade hub he has designed and will test soon.    All the components of his hub system look "heavy",  however the appearance is very deceiving... the use of selected light materials is essential in all these small models, to enabling them to fly.
