CIERVA
C.19 MK IV

Here`s something from Spain..... the home of Juan Cierva, the inventor of the original Autogyro...... This is a 1/4 scale model (before covering) of the only full sized Cierva autogiro presently on display in the Museo Del Aire, in Madrid

Please Note:  To our knowledge no attempt was ever made to actually fly this model.  When I fortunate to actually view this model at the Madrid, Spain,  fly-in ( 1997 ) it was not in flying condition.  jb

Isn`t this model magnificent!

These photos are all the way from Spain....!   Jose Pico Goicoechea, 71 years young, and his masterful 1/4 exact scale model of an autogiro presently in the MUSEO DEL AIRE, near Madrid.    Jose has just returned from Seville and after completing some measurements, says the following are more accurate than his previous estimates.. Having built his model 10 years ago, it is understandable he was not positive of the measurements he had given before...
  • Rotor Diameter:   aproximately 8 1/2 feet.
  • Blade Airfoil:  RAF 34
  • Blade Chord: aproximately 3 inches.
  • Overall Length:  aproximately 5 feet.
  • wingspan: aproximately 56 inches.
  • Flight weight, with fuel:  aproximately 16 3/4 Lbs.
  • Motor:  SuperTigre 3000
Jose is a former Spanish Scale Champion, and he brought his model to "The First International Fly-in",  Madrid, in September 1997, to the enjoyment of everyone attending.... We appreciate that he photographed his model prior to the covering, so that the construction detail could be viewed and admired.

Just look at the fantastic detail and mastercraftsmanship of Jose ....!

Note:  Something that is difficult to see in these photos is that Jose has duplicated the rotor pre-rotation system of the original machine, which is fully functional on the model.  Jose demonstrated this feature at the Spain fly-in.
