Our second model Autogyro Fly In was again held in Phoenix at the Sun Valley Flyers Model Airfield. The wonderful success of the first fly in carried over to the second one, with attendance nearly doubling both in gyro flyers and models.
Emilio Cabezas traveled all the way from Spain to thrill the other flyers and spectators with fantastic demonstrations of his small, direct rotor controlled, autogyro.
Nearly every style & type of model gyro was shown and flown, from co-axial rotor, synchronized rotor, flapping rotor, dual rotor, teeter bar rotor, to the fascinating direct rotor controlled model. With beautiful sunny, occasionally breezy, weather, three full days of flying was enjoyed. Again we enjoyed an excellent technical discussion during the evening of day two, as part of a dinner get-together. Emilio Cabezas gave an excellent presentation on Gyro Aerodynamics, which everyone found highly informative.
Again this year, a wonderful full sized gyroplane demonstration was presented by Tim Ramsayer and Gerold Brown to culminate the three full days of activity enjoyed by all in attendance.
We immediately began plans to expand the fly in`s to other parts of the country in the future.
